President Obama Considering Executive Order on Human Rights

The Executive Order would address the human rights obligations of the United States and put concrete action behind President Obama’s recognition that human rights begin at home. Act now!

Support Children's Rights to Adequate Housing

Right now, over 1.3 million children around the country are homeless. Many more are an eviction notice, medical emergency or parental pink slip away. How can this be happening in 21st century America? Act now!

Don't Wait for Congress to Stop Racial Profiling

It is time to face the truth about the Department of Justice guidance on racial profiling. As written, the 2003 guidance has loopholes and omissions that allow for some of the very behavior the guidance is intended to regulate. Act now!

Remembering Int'l Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

On Sunday, March 21, racial justice advocates
around the world will commemorate the International Day for the
Elimination of Racial Discrimination. In 1998, the South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission delivered its findings on the massacre of March 21, 1960 at Sharpeville, finding that the police had "deliberately opened fire on an unarmed crowd that had gathered peacefully...to protest the pass laws." Act now!

TELL THE GEORGIA GOV., LEGISLATURE, PARDONS AND PAROLE BOARD, PRESIDENT OBAMA, ATTORNEY GENERAL HOLDER, CONGRESS AND THE MEDIA:
STOP THE EXECUTION OF TROY DAVIS!

Please join the online campaign to STOP THE EXECUTION! FREE TROY DAVIS NOW!

YOUR EMERGENCY ACTION IS NEEDED NOW!   Click here to fill in online form and tell Gov. Perdue and the Georgia Pardons and Parole Board:

STOP THE EXECUTION! FREE TROY DAVIS! Troy Davis is an African American on death row in Georgia. Davis was convicted in the 1989 killing of a police officer despite what Amnesty International calls "overwhelming doubts about his guilt." No physical forensic evidence was presented at Davis' trial, and 7 of the 9 witnesses have recanted their testimony, with at least two saying they were pressured by police to finger Davis as the killer. Yet on October 14, 2008 the Supreme Court refused to allow a new hearing in his case, and on April 16, 2009 the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals voted 2-1 to deny his appeal. TAKE ACTION NOW using the form below to let the Georgia Parole Board, Governor, Legislature,
and congressional delegation as well as President Obama, U.N. Secretary-General Ban, Congressional leaders and members of the media know you demand No Execution of Troy Davis!

On May 19, from Alaska to West Virginia and from Argentina to Uganda, high school and college students, faith-based groups and progressive community organizations are organizing vigils, rallies and petition drives as well as the vital means of communication to bring worldwide pressure on Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue and the Pardons and Parole Board to stop the execution of Troy Anthony Davis.

Your messages will go to hundreds of public officials, including the
Governor of Georgia, the entire Georgia legislature, each member of the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles, the full Georgia Congressional delegation, as well as President Obama, Attorney General Holder, Congressional leaders, U.N. Secretary-General Ban, and national and local media representatives.

Urgent HUD McKinney Reauthorization Calls Needed Now

Senators Jack Reed (D-RI) and Christopher Bond (R-MO) will offer an
amendment later today to reauthorize the McKinney programs administered
by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).  Senator
Reed's amendment would add S. 808, the HEARTH Act, to S. 896, a bill
that amends FHA loan and foreclosure mitigation programs.  The HEARTH
Act would make a number of important improvements to the McKinney Act
programs administered by HUD. Read more.

Ask Secretary Clinton Why the US Continues to Deliver Arms to Israel

Despite strong evidence of the misuse of U.S. weapons against civilians
in Gaza, Amnesty International recently revealed that the United States
sent a massive new shipment of arms to Israel. The Wehr Elbe, a ship
controlled by the U.S. Military Sealift Command, docked and unloaded
several thousand tons of arms on March 22 at the Israeli port of
Ashdod. Ask State Department officials why the United States would
deliver these arms to Israel. Take action.

Demand Temporary Protective Status (TPS) for Haitians

More than 30,000 undocumented Haitians currently living and working in the U.S. are facing immediate deportation. The timing of these deportations couldn’t be worse: Haiti is still reeling from a series of hurricanes last year that collectively constituted the worst natural disaster there in a century. Haiti’s critical infrastructure has not been rebuilt, and basic services have yet to be restored throughout the country. Repatriating thousands of people who will have little or no access to jobs, housing, food and health care would only destabilize an already fragile nation on the verge of economic and social collapse.
