Dear US Human Rights Network,

We write today to share the difficult news that we are pausing the Network’s operations for an indefinite period of time, starting October 20, 2021.

After months of thought work and reflecting on our stewardship and fiduciary responsibilities, we, the Board of USHRN, have taken the difficult decision to center the health of the Network and its legacy as a key mover of the human rights movement in the United States. This decision to pause Network activities will give us and you, the membership, the opportunity to rethink the next iteration of the Network in ways it can be healthy, thriving and nurturing of our people-centered human rights movement.

Please give us grace as we work through this critical responsibility, and we look forward to inviting the full Network community into the conversation as soon as we are able. If you have questions in the meantime, please feel free to be in touch with us at info@ushrnetwork.org.

In community,

USHRN Board

Molefi Askari, Chair

Eric Tars, Vice-chair/Treasurer/Secretary

Conversation: Natalie A. Collier, founder of The Lighthouse | Black Girl Projects

The Lighthouse | Black Girl Projects takes a holistic approach to the leadership development of Black girls and women through a consortium of projects. These projects are avenues by which Black girls in the southeastern United States are centered. We’re growing as an organizing, educating, advocating and cultural space that nurtures leadership development, engages in reproductive health work that empowers women through policy work and have a focus on civic engagement. The organization creates safe spaces for these Black girls with the goal of having their homes and communities places where their safety and freedom are welcomed.
