Join activists at Mauna Kea, the US-Mexico border, and Puerto Rico on tomorrow’s Membership Call

Dear Member,

Please don’t forget to register for tomorrow’s Membership Call. We’ll be joined by our members on the frontlines including Pua Case, leading the activism at Mauna Kea in Hawai’i; Marlene Chavez, working at the Southern border in Texas; and Natasha Bannan, updating us on ongoing protests and the possible resignation of Gov. Ricardo Rosselló in Puerto Rico.

Program Director for Mauna Kea Education and Awareness, creating a platform for the protection of sacred places and for social justice for Indigenous Peoples of Hawai’i. Pua and her family are petitioners in the Contested Case hearing filed on behalf of Mauna Kea Mountain. She was recently interviewed on Democracy Now! regarding ongoing protests against the construction of a Thirty Meter Telescope on sacred mountaintop, Mauna Kea.

MarleneMarlene Chavez

Director of Community Engagement and Outreach at Texas RioGrande Legal Aid, providing Texas farmworkers with free civil legal services. Marlene is also the Founder of Human Rights Coalition of South Texas, and the Co-Founder of Fuerza del Valle Workers Center. She will provide an update on the humanitarian crisis at the US-Mexico border and the situation at immigrant detention centers. 

Natasha2Natasha Bannan

Associate Council at LatinoJustice PRLDEF, Natasha’s work focuses on the economic exploitation and discrimination against low-wage Latinx immigrant workers, as well as legal support in the face of the economic and humanitarian crisis in Puerto Rico. She will be speaking about the recent uprising and massive protests in Puerto Rico: what is behind them; what the demands are; and how US-based organizations can support the people's demands.
