Black History Month 2020

Feb 11, 2020

In honor of Black History Month, we're participating in a movement to celebrate February as Black Futures Month by not only paying homage to influential, historical Black leaders, but also looking forward to contemporary peers who dream and envision Black Futures filled with unbounded possibility.

This month, we'll be featuring two artists a week on our social media channels - IG, FB, and TW - whose work is inspired by Afrofuturism, and who we are in turn inspired by!

We're launching our homage to Black Futures today, beginning by remembering with gratitude one of the historical conceptualizers of Afrofuturism, the late, great Octavia Butler. Octavia Butler was a celebrated science fiction/fantasy and Afrofuturist novelist and “dream architect” who centered powerful Black women in her work, with a racial justice, gender justice, and queer/gender-non-conforming lens. Octavia’s legacy continues to inspire artists from all walks of life.

Make sure you're following our channels so you don't miss the incredible artwork to come!
