UN CSW Parallel Event: Reproductive Injustice

Feb 12, 2020

The US Human Rights Network is co-sponsoring our member Kerry McLean's CSW64 parallel event this March 9, titled Reproductive Injustice: Confronting the Black Maternal Mortality Crisis. The event is sponsored by The Center for Pan-African Affairs and co-sponsored by the National Lawyer's Guild, the US Human Rights Network, and the International Association of Democratic Lawyers.

Black women in the US are 3 to 4 times more likely to die of pregnancy and childbirth related causes than white women, regardless of education and socioeconomic status. In the UK Black mothers are five times more likely to die due to complications during childbirth. It is a crisis. During this year's United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, join us for a conversation where we examine how institutional racism and stereotyping hinders Black women's access to maternal health care, ways in which to hold institutions accountable, and strategies that can help save women's lives.
